Students who make a commitment to the sport benefit from flying on a regular basis, which speeds up the training time and reduces cost.

To encourage this Pemberton Soaring Centre offers 20% off the glider rental for students and pilots who prepay their flying program, in blocks of $500 or more, and continue to maintain a credit balance.

In order to give you a better idea of costs, solo flight usually occurs after 40 - 50 flights with an instructor, although frequency and aptitude may shorten or lengthen this time. Ab-initio students usually spend approximately $3,800 towards achieving solo flight and learning some basic soaring techniques; a further 30 solo and a few dual check flights are usually sufficient to qualify for a Glider Pilot License. An additional $1,700 - $2,200 normally is required to get you from solo to licensed (manuals, ground briefings and ground school account for about $275.00 in the training program).

Introductory Soaring Packages are also available for anyone who just wants to try their hand at learning to fly gliders. Our package includes: three flights with one of our instructors, log book and soaring manual for only $346.50.
